  • Caterers, Curators, and, Cultists

This season we are using the rule “floor dice count”; basically if you roll a die there must be a result–even if it falls on the floor or is cocked we will try to determine the result. I was the first victim of this rule with this classic table gapper!

Keys From The Golden Vault live from Alakazam Comics in Irvine, CA. This week our tabaxi heroes flee the museum pursued by the Heroes of the D&D Movie. The jump from the roof with the Murkmire stone and hightail it to the office where they start questioning their decision! In the end they are able to complete the heist and level up

It was the regular crew, minus Brian with a new player I meet in the shop while we were starting up.

I used the pregens from D&D Beyond for the movie characters.

My DM notebook worked great yesterday–the characters now have name, background, rouge gallery archetype, and catchphrase.

Another great week at Alakazam comics

I am running Keys From The Golden Vault live from Alakazam Comics in Irvine, CA. This week our tabaxi heroes raid the museum to acquire the Murkmire stone! We had three new players at the table and were able to get their characters up and running in under thirty minutes which is amazing. We did have eight at the table again, which is a lot, but everyone had a good time as the sudden and inevitable betrayal occurred.

    The shop is looking great!

There is a creepy doll at the entrance.

I had the players draw a picture of their character’s outfit for the Gala

My notebook is still a mess–I am almost ready to start a new one and I have a lot of thoughts on what I can do better.

  • Alda is a Women

Keys From The Golden Vault live from Alakazam Comics in Irvine, CA. This week our tabaxi heroes identify with characters from Batman’s rouge gallery in which our party of tabaxi Top Card (rogue played by Glenn) is Cat Women without the slapstick, Julie Newmar (ranger played by Lance) is Ra’s al Ghul, Snow on the Mountain (fighter played by Lewis) is mentored by Two-Face, and Feather on the River (cleric played by Brain) is Killer Croc. It may have been renamed Swallow on the River. Dylan joined with a character–we have hazing rules in place for new players (in this case, we rolled his stats) named Lion in the Pocket (illusionist), who Brian calls Spit on the Ground.

The Golden Vault museum heist of the Murkmire Malevolence continued mostly with casing the museum and preparing for the actual heist.

The players drew the Logo of the Museum

My DM notes are mostly from the beginning of the adventure about the players and the characters.

  • Tabaxi go to college – the Murkmire Malevolence

Keys From The Golden Vault live from Alakazam Comics in Irvine, CA. This week is character creation and the start of the Murkmire Malevolence in which our party of tabaxi Top Card (rogue played by Glenn), Julie Newmar (ranger played by Lance), Snow on the Mountain (fighter played by Lewis), and Feather on the River (cleric played by Brain) are hired by the Golden Vault for a museum heist.

I love starting sessions with character creation and I love where this session went!

I love that each adventure has their own key icon.

And I had the characters draw their own version of key based on my description and then vote for the winner.

Having two tables running makes the store feel very lived in.

We had a ton of space with only four players at the table.

The kids are having a ton of fun.

    I rolled video for YouTube.

  • Waiting Room – Burger Master, Funny Arm, and Falling Spiders

Anther great week of D&D at Alakazam Comic Shop in Irvine, California. We are playing a largely laughable Curse of Strahd adventure with a lot of Pastel Goth overtones!

This week we had a massive table at the Curse of Strahd game that DM Ricard is running. The party is very role-play heavy and I think I only rolled one die for initiative the entire session! We are early on in the game and meet with the Burgermeister to protect the women who Strahd is focused on, meeting his one-armed henchmen and basically telling jokes. A very fun session!

Cody did not get the memo and attempted the only attack role of the session–dropping on the henchman as a spider and then drawing dual scimitars to attack! He was struck for 18 bludgeoning and knocked unconscious.

There were a lot of us at the table, so several player did not get a lot of screen time this week

I did video the session and posted it to youtube.

Also, very excited to get the new Heist book from Wizards of the Coast which I will likely start running next week.

  • ORCCON 2023

We always start the con with a paint and take mini and this year Cody killed it!

Next up is the dealer room and the Dice Envy booth which remains one of the best things about CON!

D&D was doing great and the adventures were awesome–so much fun to roll dice with these guys!

Some of the best mini’s of ALL TIME!

Cody was rolling critical hits left and right!

  • Strange Love — End Of Campaign

Final night of the adventure ends in player vs. player Highlander combat!

The Geneva Suggestion, a group of oozology characters playing in Alakazam’s Living Forgotten Realms Encounters Adventure League, complete the genocide of Xaryxis space, destroying the star system and completely killing all the astral elves only to return to their home planet and have a player vs. player duel. What a mess!

    Ravenous Spectral Pores

    By exercising
cryptic tales of ponies & harems
    I distract
    from whatever cause is pouring
vis a vis necessitous solar inferno as mirrors reflect one’s ravenous spectral pores

so should I wander across its sums
I understand that my speculation issues from tornadic rivers

Dylan’s mini collection is really improving!

This is the final battle of the Zodar and Empress attacking the party.

  • Split the party into thirds

The Geneva Suggestions, a group of Oozologists playing Alakazam’s Living Forgotten Realms Encounters Adventure League continue their adventure in the realm of Spelljammer committing war crimes. The battle in the Arena of BLOOOODDDDD spills into Vorack’s palace–Astral Elves, Solar Dragons, and the Prince are all in the mix! Fourteen players are at the table this week, so things are even more chaotic than usual.
