![]() My rating: 5 of 5 stars Ok, this guy invented the Hand from the Addams Family and a ton of other horror tropes. Creative and clever these stories are awesome–there is a constant similarity to a lot of them–young academics exploring old churches, letters in a box, hushed whispers, strange slogans with dark meanings, and what have you; but at the end of the day each tale is so unique and so clever it is amazing. I have no idea why I did not read James earlier–he is a very foundational writer & I should have been directed to this simple read a LONG time ago–it is like somehow never having read Lovecraft or Dickens or something–crucial, influential, clever, universal, and fun. I cannot recommend this to you enough–particularly if you have not read James before. View all my reviews |
