The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead

The Underground RailroadThe Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Colson came to UCI. He spoke in a rather large auditorium–I mean for an author. We sang Donna Summer together. Faculty asked questions that only they understood. People sat on the steps. It was great.

This book, however (no matter what Oprah says) is only OK–more hype then it deserves in my opinion. I mean, like, Colson can write and all…I mean REALLY write–the kid is fantastic..but unless you really love american letters this book is not all that special. What makes it special is what is going to come afterwards. Like the Bends…I mean some people hear early Radiohead and can TELL what is going to come next. Some cannot.

Colson is going to write better books thean this…trust me…
