This book took me a very long time to read.
I did not get all that much out of it–I read it so that I would have a more deep understanding of the beauty of Islam. I did not get that–I got a lot of hate. I really wanted to find the part that right wing anti muslims do not understand. Instead, I got bored with gardens with rivers flowing beneath them, all powerful god, examples of human intolerance, and just general old school religious weirdness.
There are some ok quotes, some useful ideas for meditation, and basically it is a fairly easy to read, repetitve book, that repeats itself a lot.
Also, when I talked to muslims about my issues with the book the response was always that the translation does not count. I hate that argument and was quickly frustrated by stories of how the original language has 10 words for the way in which a horse moves. Silly anti-intellectual argument.
