Scourge of the Sword Coast–D&D Encounters S17 S6
Another fun night of D&D Encounters at Mercenary Market in Costa Mesa.Jack has a job taking out the trash at his Grandma’s house. The key is to have the cans properly spaced so that she does not receive a note and, at the same time, not block Les’s mailbox on the left or the driveway on the right.Waiting for feedback on this setup.
We hit Chipotle & got to the store with plenty of time to set up–but Brian was needed to DM!
Good Lord!
Jack has a Dwarf Fighter.
Richard was sitting pole position playing a Drow Rogue.Thor was playing a Wood Elf Fighter Ranger.
Jeff had a High Elf Mage.
Brandon had a cleric that he built during the game.
I was using my white dice.
Brian bought a giant mat for use in the game.
I had the old character sheet, for Don Buri which I plan to rewrite this week and share my amazing D&DNext Ninja build.
The fight this night was an amazing battle–I think DM Brian had set us up for a TPK.
But luckily we brought a lot of Sunkist and were able to win the day.
DM Brian was shocked. -
Duel Decks at CHOC
Jack & I picked up the Jace vs Vraska Duel Deck on the way to his infusion at CHOC.Infusion is another way to say Chemo which freaks people out so we try to be mellow about it…unless it is Jace vs Vraska and then the entire Multiverse will hear our battle!First a little documentation on picking up the decks…Brian was not able to find them at the local Target….the are near the cash registers in the front…on the bottom…there are a lot of them…and very few are this fuzzy…
The battle ground at the Children’s Hospital is perfect!
And Jack was clearly ready to get his game on!
we had a great set of nurses today & the playing surface was perfect!
The first game I got out my Vraska, but I could not get anything else going–I got mana flooded and Jack owned me. He had a lot of removal. The second game was better, but he scooped in the end because I was able to get some card advantage rolling & kept some creature on the table. He also got his Jace out, but I removed it immediately.
After the second game, Jack passed out. -
Post Encounters Two Headed Giant
So the Star City Games Open is coming to LA. Jack wants to play his black standard deck, which has been running awesome for him lately.Brian and I are planning to play some two headed giant:Two-Headed Giant SealedSaturday – 3PM
Entry: $30/teamRegistration: 2PM – 2:50PMCurrent Sealed format Two-Headed Giant.
8 packs per team – two 40-card minimum decks.
Four rounds of Swiss.Prizes
4-0: 8 Booster Packs per Team
3-0-1: 6 Booster Packs per Team
3-1: 4 Booster Packs per Team
2 wins: 2 Booster Packs per Teamso we got in a test game after encounters this week. Our first question was around deck construction–Jack argues that a team can only have four of any given card–in other words you cannot run Eight Swan Songs–only four total for the team. One player can have all four or you can split them, but you cannot have four in teammate one’s library and four in teammate two’s library. Red Mage at the shop disagreed & I am not sure where the Star City GamesPlease note my ultra awesome Jace mat which will inspire fear in the competition.Jack played with Scott.Brian and I scooped the first game–I was mana screwed. The second game went better but still we lost.Jack had a lot of removal & I just could not get anything going. Please note the fantastic mat again. -
Born of the Gods Game Day @ Monsters & Magic in Mission Viejo, CA
Tuesday Crew headed down to Mission Viejo for some drafting on Born of the Gods Game Day. We drove down in Lisa’s mini van.David Welty was there for his first Magic event in a long time.
Scott drafted like a champ & had some really good cards–Xenegos among them.Derek went for a three color strategy–he lost close ones in round one, but I think he won his next two rounds easily.Cameron’s daughter Briana was there & playing some very close matches.
Alex played in his first even & needed more help then he got–I think he had a lot of fun, but he did not draft well & struggled to score at all throughout the day.
We had two complete pods in the draft.Preston was also playing in his first even & he did very well.Cameron ended up winning my pod with a classic Green/ White Heroic strategy.
David was stoked to take home so many rares.
It was a super fun day.
