I saw this in Riverside with Alex, Katrina, Luis, Jack, and Katherine. It was a totally blast. The beginning battle and climb up the cliff were fantastic–the Obi-Wan was great. I liked Amadala saving the day behind the scenes in the end. Jack thought it was the best Star Wars movie yet.

The Source

This was a great movie–KGB were treated seperately and lots of great interviews were shown. The actors did dramatic readings which ruled.A lot of the minor characters were shown as fairly ugly–Corso in particular was shown to be the sexist beatnik alpha male.
Kesey’s interviews were strong, Sanders was brilliant, all in all a great movie.

Chapter 27

I went and saw this with Maria yesterday at the University. It was horrible.
I had never seen a movie with Lindsay Lohen and now I have. She cannot act. Maria mentioned that the Chapman character was also played by a kid actor. He could not act. Princess Amadala gets naked in it for no reason.
The film is dark and brooding. I was nervous most of the time. Nothing happened. The “voices in the head” was comical–in fact, I spent most of the time laughing at this movie.
I did like that it attempted to take the Catcher in the Rye angle seriously. Also, the guy who played the photographer was great. The high point was the Yoko cry when she finds John dead–it is strangely similar to her Peace Cry–but this is in such bad taste that even I could not enjoy it. I imagine that Yoko will love it.
Even the soundtrack to this sucks–I actually walked out of the Meaningful Credit Tune, which is currently my favorite film music genre.
I recommend this movie to just about everyone who has not seen a movie with Lindsay Lohen in it. The people protesting are seriously wasting their time.

1408

This was a solid horror movie. Samuel L Jackson is amazing as the hotel manager–really great stuff & I could have used a lot more of him.The writer stuff was great–no one showing up to the reading, all writers drink, etc.
I liked the 9 levels of hell–the flash outs–I liked the surfing stuff.
Overall, I enjoyed this movie a lot more then I thought I would.

There Will Be Blood

This was a big movie and I am still not sure how to respond.I am thinking about the roll of silver.
I am thinking Citizen Kane.
I am thinking Bowling & Big Lobowski. And games as man’s God Lust for Control.
I am thinking Eli and the roll of Paul and all things religious.
I am thinking about the final line, about killing your brother.
I am thinking about language and being deaf and talking with your hands.
I am thinking about Marriage, about competition, about compromise.
I am thinking about exploration.

Frida

I was really fired up for this film, but it was not that great. It did not have much new insight into what makes an artist–it was mostly about the Relationship–about jealousy and acceptance, which is fine, but there was a bigger story to tell here. The early tragedy (and the special effects around it) was fantastic. The communist stuff was fairy predictable and not all that insightful. The scene with the Sister on the Day of the Dead was epic, the stuff with Trotsky & French Lesbianism was less so.
I am not sure, but I did not get nearly the hit from this that I was hoping.

Hard Candy

This is another of a long line of weird movies that only have two actors.
I thought that the acting was very spotty–sometimes it was amazing & sometimes it was hard to watch.
The screen play was also often incredible followed by levels of banality seldom seen. I would recommend this movie to no one–I am not mad that I sat through it, it just does not open any new doors into any of the issues raised.
“Funny, Aaron said the same thing about you”. -
Abnormal Beauty

I watched this last night after I got my sick family to bed. It was on the Cox Free Movie Preview channel for Sundance. It was an amazing Chinese film–yet another movie from China that deal aggressively with the nature of Art.
The movie is really well done on a lot of level, the psychosexual killer stuff is so completely over the top I did not really find it disturbing. The childhood trauma creating lasting issues message was very strong. The Elevator Ledge scene totally rules, the bathtub flash back scene is very memorable. I liked the painting in class stuff. I liked the book store and coffee shop scenes. The jealousies. The part when the parents walk in. “I still have the money in my account you put there last month” was great.
Likely the strongest take away from this that I had was the fact that the snuff video left on her porch was labeled in English–“Take A Look”. A fantastic comment on the risk of dancing with the dark side. The fact that it is in English makes the message somehow much more disturbing–the sex=death theme takes on the sense of being some kind of outside western influence.
I do not think I would ever recommend this movie to anyone, for fear of what they would think of me, but it was a good movie to get me out of myself last night. -
Beowulf
I saw this with David. We saw the 10:00 PM show at the spectrum. We saw it in IMAX 3-D.
It was excellent.
The story was great, the effects were awesome, the christian subtext was well presented. The film was very violent. There was a lot of gore and general creepiness.
Th liked the magic feel to the cartoonyness of the film.
