I watched this on Netflix with Jack. A great film about mentoring, the environment, and life–really top notch with amazing camera work. So glad I saw this and even more happy that I saw it with my son.

  • Prometheus

Amazingly fantastic film. I saw this with Sean & Thomas and their kids–it was a fun time! I have lots of strong thoughts on this film–basically, this is what happens when you go looking for God without humility.

  • Thor

Watched this on Netflix over two days. I thought it was better then most people said.

  • Sliding Doors

I watched this on Saturday night with Lisa on Netflix. I thought it was fantastic–a simple tale about the life not lived, the path not taken, the opportunities missed, but what sets it apart is the end–when the Easy Happy life dies and the rewards from the life of struggle are so strong. I really did enjoy this. Remember what Monty Python says–“no one ever expects the spanish inquisition”. so good–a fun date flick.

  • The Wild Hunt

I started watching this on Netflix early in the morning, but the kids got up so I had to stop. I finished watching this on the couch with Lisa. The movie is a Canadian LARP film so I expected a lot of humor and nerd shenanigans–I did not expect sledge hammers to the head, bloody rock face smashes, and weird sex scenes–I mean who sticks there tongue out like that EVER. In any event, a very odd film–violent, perverse, and not a little thought provoking for a low budget indie film.

The main actress, who some how had started using LARPing to escape the real world as an almost addition, was completely gorgeous and her relation to the younger brother and evil shaman guy was really well done–there was no investigation of her motivation which actually added a lot to the drama of those scenes. The relationship of the brothers was awesome–and their communication around the father was fantastic. It is almost embarrassing to write this stuff about such a seemingly whacky movie, but I really did feel drawn in and challenged by these relationships. Even the minor characters with their back burner shakespearian issues added a lot to this film. As I am working this film, I am flashing on scenes and dialog that was really surprisingly good–there is this whole thing about the lost saga’s of our fathers and stuff that works within the LARP, but also tells a lot of the real world story as well. A good movie that I would recommend to just about anyone.

  • Bronson

I watched this sick in bed on Netflix.

I did not really like it–as a student of Warhol I understand a lot of the darkness of celebrity infatuation on which a lot of this is based.

I found the british history stuff fun.

I also liked the david lynch gay scenes very fun, but overall not a film that I am glad a say–just another movie about crazy–kind of a tired topic at this point.

  • Black Death

I watched this late at night while sick on Netflix.

    I found it difficult.

I liked the adventure party. I liked the quest. I liked the acting, writing, and character motiviation.

What I did not like was the plot, I think.

It was kind of a Heart of Darkness type thing where they go up the river to fight an evil, but the evil turns out to be fine. Really, no problem here, everything is good.

So the church infects them with the Plague. I just do not get it–like why? And that appears to have been the plan from the beginning. It was all just weird and too much.

And then the epilogue where the hero has become this dark torturing ass just did not make any sense at all–it really really fell apart in a very very bad way. Not worth it at all.

  • Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

I saw this on HBOGo late at night while sick.

I liked it a lot–there was some very funny stuff and some clever acting.

I still think that the comic was better, but it was fun to see an indy book made into a fairly successful movie.

  • Green Lantern

I watched this on HBOGo–it was horrible.

Completely terrible. Likely one of the worst films that I have ever seen something so horrible. Ever.

My thought is that it is too rushed–there is no story here. There is just a very long fantastic comic book run that gets boiled down into a giant salt tab that makes me sick just to think about it.

A horrible horrible film–the special effects are awesome. The actors are fine. But overall a tremendous wast of time.

  • The Order

I watched this on Netflix alone. I  was sick.

I did not like it. It was weirdly anti-catholic, anti-Carolinian? something–just did not feel right.

The Sin Eater was interesting, but just wrong as a villain.

I am not sure where this film went wrong–the cast was good, the acting was all right, the film work was awesome, I bet there was even a good script in here somewhere.

At some place it just fell apart.
