  • Uncanny X-Men #536

I picked this up during Free Comic Book Day. I read it at home during a lunch break.

Breakworld. Refugee’s on Earth. Magneto gets played. I am not much of a fan of this–they did set up his interest in the metal early on–I like the not technology, not magic, weapon stuff. But I am just not that interested in the story.

Overall, well written and I really like the team. No complaints with the lack of Namor. But I would like them to start a new arc rather then playing out the past–a past I am really not that interested in.

    The official review has:
    //begin
“BREAKING POINT” When the X-Men left the militaristic alien Breakworld, its political structure was reduced to ashes. It didn’t stay that way forever. Now a warship is crossing the gulf of space, with a mission that will strike the lives of star-crossed lovers Colossus and Kitty Pryde with all the force of a meteor. Join them as they discover what the vessel them means for them, mutantkind and the rest of the Earth. All courtesy of KIERON GILLEN and TERRY DODSON! Part 1 (of 4).
    //end

but I think that this is part 2 of 5, right–I mean last issue was X-Men meeting with Sword and arriving at the Breakworld ship…

  • Elric: The Balance Lost (Free Comic Book Day)

I got this at Alakazam during free comic book day.

I went with Jack and Cody on a Saturday Morning.

This was the book I was most interested in & when they got there it was all gone–luckily, Will stopped someone at the door who was leaving with one of every book & the guy came back and handed this to me.

I really liked the story–Elric seemed more sure of himself then I remember, but it looks like the story will be a strong Eternal Champion type tale which I like a lot.

    The art was great.

The highlight was the end text which gave a history of Elric in Comics including the fact that he was the second Graphic Novel from Marvel which I had forgotten–I remembered Death of Captain Marvel, but I am not sure if I have ever read Elric’s early marvel graphic novel–I am going to look for it.

  • Dungeons and Dragons #6

I bought this at Free Comic Book Day at Alakazam. I read it at my house on the couch in the family room to Cody.

This was the introduction to Fell’s Four, our main team. The introduction of his military leader–a gnome illusionist was great. This book had a huge amount of dialog, and the art seemed to suffer to some level, but over all it was fine.

I took it up for Jack to read in his room when I was done. I do not have his review yet.

  • Glamourpuss #18

I picked this up at Alakazam. I read it that night at home.

I am still deeply commited to this book–I think I missed last issue & am following up to see what happened to my sub. It is not a book that I really look foreword to or hope comes out, but I really feel it when it is not there.

This issue has Cerebus in the world of Mad Men–that is a TV show that I actually enjoyed on Netflix a lot.

Then it has more in depth study of the Photo Realism Comic Studs and their mental drives–Sim dissects these guys based on photos and reporting–he using photo realism against itself so well it is frightening.

    It is a Great Book!

I guess, what I am waiting for is reviews like this:

Seriously, what can you say about this comic? In many ways, it’s pretty much review-proof. There’s no real plot, in the traditional sense, to dissect or critique. The subject matter isn’t going to appeal to most super-hero fans, and Sim’s reputation probably drives away a large number of indy fans who might otherwise find the title of interest. And yet, Sim keeps plugging away at it. Either you like it or you don’t. I think the best thing that can be said is that Sim’s mixture of satire and scholarship makes it an intriguing read, and it pretty much delivers what is promises on the tin, no matter how small the target audience for it may be.

To get blown away–when the paranoia mind blowing wickedness of this book finally hits & I am going to be so happy.

  • Dungeons & Dragons #5

    I got this at Alakazam.

I read it in Z-Pizza while Kate was in Dance Class.

This is currently the best Comic that Jack and I are reading–he loves every bit of it, including the character sheets at the end. I am also really enjoying the fast moving story and fun Epic Fantasy elements.

A great book that continues to deliver.

    Here is the official review:

John Rogers (w) ? Andrea Di Vito (a) ? Tyler Walpole, Billy Dallas Patton (c) The explosive conclusion of the first storyline, ‘Shadowplague’! Fell’s Five have plumbed the depths of the dwarven ruins, but where they end up is out of this world. Join us as John Rogers and Andrea Di Vito forge ahead with their thrilling adventures of swords and sorcery. JAN110520

  • Uncanny X-Men 535

I picked this up at Alakazam. It was the second x-book that I read with the same creative team.

Ashamed to admin how much I miss Greg Land on this–the art, particularly the cover, is just very uneventful for me–for a flagship book with very slow moving plots I think Marvel should do better.

The plot was a kick off to make Kitty & Collosus relavent again–which I support. The book has a battle including Namor which I do not support–he really has no place in this book even if Emma finds him hot.

I like the Magneto vs the Science Lab stuff, but the fact that he goes and whines to Scott is absurd–this is a guy that solves problems, he does not escallate–Magneto needs another evolution & soon.

Overall an ok book–but not really going any where interesting at the moment…

    Here is the official synopsis:

The Story: (hide) “BREAKING POINT” When the X-Men left the militaristic alien Breakworld, its political structure was reduced to ashes. It didn’t stay that way forever. Now a warship is crossing the gulf of space, with a mission that will strike the lives of star-crossed lovers Colossus and Kitty Pryde with all the force of a meteor. • Uncanny X-Men 534.1

I picked this up at Alakazam. I read it at Z-Pizza.

Kate was at Dance Class, so I had picked up two packs of seaweed. I also had a slice of cheese pizza & a cup of Peets coffee–it was pretty good.

A photographer and PR specialist go to Utopia to work on Magneto’s reputation. Magneto is his current predictable self. The art is great. The story is simple. Not bad for a .1 issue, but nothing to write home about.

  • Uncanny X-Force #7

    Another GREAT Rick issue.

I got this at Alakazam & read it at Z-Pizza with coffee and a slice of cheese.

Fantomex really steals this one with a dark ending, but there is good Deadpool banter and a lot of fun Angel & Psylocke stuff as well.

Again, super charged Wolverine almost sinks the issue, but it turns out to be excellent in the end.

If this keeps up we may actually have the Year of X!

  • Uncanny X-Force 5.1

I bought this at The Realm. Jack and I went there after having fantastic pizza at Phat Pizza in Yorba Linda at a Boy Scout event. It was fun to go there.

I read this while sitting on our new couches. Lisa was reading a bible book & disturbed by group violence–people who commit violent crime deliberately in a group. I was not really listening to her that closely but she was clearly upset.

Jack, Kate, and Cody were in our room mostly behaving themselves–Jack playing video games, Kate & Cody watching Astroboy on netflix.

This issue was another fantastic Remender issue–I am currently his biggest fan by a lot–seriously he has really refocused my faith in comics & this is a fairly good oneshot.

Still to much flawless Wolverine. Still not enough sophisticated team work–I am seriously tired of these studs being suprised by anything. The appearance by Cyclops & Magneto is simply awesome. A fun quick read.

  • Uncanny X-Force #5

I got this Alakazam in Irvine & read it at Peets.

Another fantastic issue–the start of a great series of issues focused on the World–I mean seriously tons of fun–characters that I NEVER care about having a great time. Beyond well written–Remender is a stud.

My current favorite X-Title on the shelves.
