More slow moving vampire stuff–not really a fan of this series.

  • Cold Steel and Secrets: A Neverwinter Novella, Part I by Rosemary Jones

I read the Kindle version of this book. I really liked the 30 screens of text–a wonderful look at Neverwinter.

  • The Book of the Mother

    The Book of the Mother
    by Shivalila, Gridley Wright
    Paperback, 88 pages
Published 1977 by Children’s Liberation Front

I downloaded the PDF from archive.org. I heard about it from a movie on cults. I found it creepy and weird–lots of baby stuff–some neat LSD stuff–but  overall just random psuedo scientific hippie babble with which I did not really find a connection.

I did like the quote about a baby never respecting privacy, but other then that a book I likely should have avoided…

  • The Fallen Years by Paul Rogov

    The Fallen Years
I ordered this on Amazon because I know the writer.
I read Paul’s book over a two month period–mostly because Lisa lost it & then I stuck it in a back pack I was not using very often.
I published a review because Paul asked me to–mostly cribbed from the back cover of books that were on my desk, it goes something like:

This is an essential book for anyone seeking to understand one man’s complex relationship with Afghanistan, Post Soviet Russia, and [at some level] Hope–all ancient, battered, and fallen institutions. The Fallen Years deserves to be shelved next to Milt Bearden’s The Black Tulip: A Novel of War in Afghanistan–it’s one of those books that won’t stay in the box. The story is really one long moan and this book is a total pleasure to read. Rogov writes–as almost no other author ever has written–with the authority of a man whose masterful skills would have made him one of the formidable, foremost in any of the events he records.

Which is mostly true–I scribbled at errors in the book a lot, but overall I found it a very fun read.

The Story: (hide) What is to become of the mutants who side with Cyclops after the big split? And what does it have to do with the resurrected Mister Sinister?

I bought this at Alakazam after much hemming and haaing. It is never a good idea when I cannot decide if I really want to read a comic.

I am totally against the book split & this episode is just plan horrible. I love sinister–I despise the press release & the attempt to make it seem serious–more character, less plot is my mantra for this book in 2012.

The Story: (hide) The Dark Angel Saga: Part 7 Archangel is ascended. The betrayer has turned the tide. The World will be opened. Realities will clash. Life will be lost. Love shattered. Do not miss this or we will find you! The boss team of Rick Remender (Venom, Fear Agent), Jerome Opeña (Punisher, Fear Agent) and Dean White (Avengers, Amazing Spider-Man) are reunited to bring on the bad guys!

I bought this at Alakazam. Read it at Peet’s as soon as I could. Another amazing issue of this series. I am absolutely in love with what remender is doing with these characters.

Art back to Opena [again] continues to be awesome.

This is still the best Marvel book that I know of.

  • Liberty Annual 2011

Edited by Bob Schreck and Greg Tumbarello
    48 pages, color
    Published by Image Comics

I got this at Alakazam. Took me a while to get around to reading it–I feel like I have to buy this because of CBLDF, but I am not sure I really enjoy it anymore–seems so old school–like we have been over these issues so many times…wish that something new would come up.

I picked this up at Alakazam. I read it on a Sunday morning.

Easily the best issue in a while.

The jab at Neil is brutal and precise. The entire issue is starting to resonate into a series–things are starting to get interesting.

  • Dungeons & Dragons: The Legend of Drizzt: Neverwinter Tales #2 of 4

    artist: Agustin Padilla
    letterer: Chris Mowry
    editor: Denton J Tipton
    writer: R.A. Salvatore
Plot Summary: The first original comic starring DRIZZT DO’URDEN continues! R.A. Salavtore maps out the future of his most famous creation from the popular FORGOTTEN REALMS setting. DRIZZT and his companion DAHLIA continue their hunt for something that seems part vampire and part elite dwarven warrior. But what they don’t know is how the evil lich VALINDRA SHADOWMANTLE and her minion KORBIN DOR’CRAE factor into the mystery.

I picked this up at Alakazam.

I read it on a Sunday Morning.

I like the idea of the reluctant vampire. I am glad that the story is moving very quickly. I am not at all concerned about the fact that the story seems to be dropping the ball on actually telling a story worth telling, or that the art is semi-bleh–I just like to have Drizzt comics in my hands.

    A fun read.
