  • 2008 California Biennial

I went to this with Sam and Jeff–Steadman showed up late.

The show was good–a little, actually a lot of clutter to the installation–seemed like a college show in a lot of ways.

I liked the Pettibon drawings–very colorful & very political.

Steadman, Jeffery, and I watched atom bombs going off.

Sam and I spent a lot of time in the store.

  • Bowers Museum

Very fun day at Bowers. It was international day–so the kids got face painting, henna hand tattoos, watched magicians, Chinese acrobats, made Christmas ornaments. A very fun time for them.

Jack, Kate, and I went on the Asian Arts tour–docent was decent, but the works were amazing. There was a lot of very strong stuff.

I learned that dragons lived in ponds, the Tao-Ti was a glutton who protected us, that the Chinese did not have grapes until very late–Gu means wine glass in Chinese.

Later we went and meet Santa & played drums. Jack and I played African stone games. Tons of fun.

  • Irvine Graffiti

I found this on the sidewalk when walking to my mother in laws house–I had planned to be hitching a ride to see Johnny at Hoag, but Ed drove straight there and no one else showed up.

It did give me time to start work on my new favorite poem–called Brother.

  • Kate’s Sun

    Kate made a fantastic sun.

  • LACMA

A good trip to the LACMA. This must be one of the most photographed pieces of art in the world.

  • Muzeo

Toby and I went over and had on OK day looking at Cheech’s art collection.

  • 98ten Fine Art

I had read about this new exhibit space in Art Forum blogs I think.

I went down to check it out.

    The space was in transition.

They were moving buildings. The staff pointed me up and down a few halls and outside around the corner into the new building and up the stairs into the lobby near the secretary. Eventually, I was referred to Mr. Park who had set up some of the shows.

He showed me down a few halls and outside around the corner into the new building and up the stairs into the lobby near the secretary. He dropped a lot of names I did not know. He talked about his vision for upcoming shows. We talked about curration.

It was a very weird gallery experience.

  • Abanodoned Chair

This Chair was left on the corner by my house. Thrown away, but to precious to be placed in the trash or something. I found it so ’90’s–I felt the drive behind the yuppie who originally purchased this horrible chair. The belief that it was some how to good to simple be thrown into a land fill. Something.
