OCMA–Video Work By Gao Shiqiang And Chen Qiulin
Kate, Jack, and I saw this on Target Free Second Sunday.
The exhibit was in the video space near the entry.
We had looked in when we first got there, but decided not to go when Jack thought it was creepy. Later, during our tour, we decided to go because a four year old could handle it.
We watched the video Color Line and talked about its symbolizes. These Chinese Dragon characters rushed in while we were watching and startled us. In the second space we were scolded for swiveling our chairs.
I am not such a fan of video installations–and this Three Damn stuff already seems dated to me.

OCMA — Carlos Amorales: Discarded Spider
Kate, Jack, and I went to the OCMA for Free Second Sunday Target day.
We went on the Family tour of this Exhibit.
It opens with a movie of Amorales creating webs. This is kind of in the entry way of the space.
The second space was painting of images–very nice–lots of image repitition.
The third large room had sculpture and more paintings.
The fourth large room was largely empty and could have used more objects.
The final room was a sound + projection exhibit. The points made notes on sitar or piano as they fell from the screen. Loud and chaotic. You excited through the movie projection area at the beginning.
I really liked this show. It was a fun clever space by an artist that I had no knowledge of–the kids really liked it. The identified the skulls as Mexican which I thought was charming. Kate even said that Shannon would love it.
