The Hierophant, or priest, sits between two pillars with his hand raised in blessing. The Fool has now created the foundation on which he will build the future. However, he begins to feel fear and wonders what would happen if everything he has worked on is taken from him.

To be free of his worries he needs to give up that which he holds dear, or hold on and wait for the fear to pass. It is possible that he will be able to keep what he has once his fears have been dealt with. This card tells you that not everything you have to deal with will be rational, and not all negative outcomes can be avoided. It also signals seeking out advice from a professional.
Depending on your own nature, the Hierophant can mean very different things. At its root, it represents tradition, but this doctrine can come in the form of teaching, advice and guidance or rigid authority. Where it appears in your spread is also important, as it is most often indicative of your own approach to the moral, religious, and social conventions of the world. It may indicate a need to seek out advice or take some time for introspection. Considered wisely, this card shows the path towards fulfillment.
