  • Hexagram 39: CHIEN

    OBSTRUCTION

Surrounded by obstructions, one must first
retreat, then seek the direction of the Sage.

There is an old saying which fits this hexagram: “You are caught between a rock and a hard place.” In other words, you are surrounded by obstructions. As much as you may want to blame others for the difficulty, in all likelihood the true obstruction is in your own thinking. What is called for now is a retreat into self-examination and self-correction.

Emotions of desire, fear, or anger may tempt you to take action now, but do not be seduced. The presence of these strong feelings is proof that your are off balance and need to steady yourself. As long as you try to forcibly achieve results—rather than carefully following higher truth step by step—you will be obstructed from making personal progress.

Whenever we indulge in judgements about others, we obstruct our own peace of mind and progress. We should choose instead to see the best in others, allow them to come and go as they will, and turn our energies inward, toward self-improvement.

Often the faults in our own thinking are revealed only with the aid of others. You would be wise now to seek the advice of a qualified counselor or truth-minded friend. Retreat, self-examination, and self-correction will remove the obstructions that block your path now.

    FIRST LINE

Do not resist difficulties or advance against them. By retreating and observing, you learn an important lesson. Then moving forward becomes easy.

    SECOND LINE

You are not to blame for the current difficulties. Neither should you concern yourself with penalizing others. Accept, let go of judgements, and simply do what is correct.

    THIRD LINE

Do not act recklessly and egotistically. Retreat and restore your equanimity, and good fortune results.

    FOURTH LINE

By keeping still you gather the resources you need to progress. The way will be shown when the time is right, and not before.

    FIFTH LINE

The obstructions can only be overcome by the strength of proper principles. Through perseverance and correctness you obtain the aid you need to succeed.

    SIXTH LINE

Do not turn your back when you are needed. The superior person exercises his higher nature now, saving not only himself but others around him.

  • This week we are guided by the Wheel of Fortune

A large wheel is turning, surrounded by symbols of change and transformation. The Fool has emerged from his retreat and recognizes it is time for change. Nothing remains the same whether you want it to or not. The time is ripe for new opportunities and fate might be in your favor.

You need to take advantage of any good luck that comes your way and consider the repercussions of your actions. You might have to adjust your plans to take account of what is happening around you.

  • This week we are guided by Temperance

An angel stands above a pond with one foot on dry land and the other on the water pouring water between two cups. The angel is equally comfortable in the conscious or subconscious. This is the still point that brings everything into balance. The Fool realizes that he has been managing contradictory extremes: the material and spiritual. He wonders whether one needs to be surrendered for the sake of the other.

Temperance relates to patience, self-control and calm. It suggests that if you have been through difficult times recently, you will soon feel calmer and cope better. You are handling things well and are able to take diverse elements and make them work together to form a stronger whole. It represents a need for moderation and balance.

  • Leo Horoscope for December 30, 2024

Sun in Capricorn, Moon in Capricorn, Sun Conjunction Moon, Sun Sextile Saturn

You may feel devoted to your work responsibilities today. You may find that your work provides you with a solace and sense of security that causes you to invest more effort into your job. Perhaps this feeling is the result of a desire to affirm your sense of self through your work. While being dedicated to work is an important part of life, you may want to think about the deeper reasons behind your dedication. Consider analyzing your personal motivation for working. If you find that you are devoted to your tasks out of a sense of commitment to others and not for your self, today may be a good time to reassess your priorities and include yourself in the equation when committing yourself to projects

  • This week we are guided by the Knights of Cups

This card can show extreme ups-and-downs. The Knight of Cups veers from euphoria to melancholy, from distress to confidence. When referring to a relationship, this card can indicate a period of flux and quarrels over feelings. This is the knight of affection, represented by the emo teenager: one who is touchy, grouchy and profound. He plays music, spends extended periods alone in his room with the shades drawn, he composes dark-themed, yet impressive poems. He can become hopelessly enamored with something, profoundly and impractically, and will believe that his is the most genuine, the most extraordinary and most amazing love ever.

He may see himself as more aesthetic and spiritual than others and believe his love to be deeper than that of others. He thinks that those around him don’t understand him, and he may often be right. Sometimes, this card suggests you should guard against depression.

The Knight of Cups encourages you to remember that victory is not just an exercise in strength of arms, but can be achieved through cleverness and a savvy mind. He can also give in to distractions of flights of wild fancy, though, so you may also interpret him as a warning to maintain your focus. New initiatives in your life are likely on their way, possibly romance, and you must remember to seek novel paths to accomplish goals, but also not lose sight of where you are going. This card is also a reminder of the ups-and-downs of life, and that emotional instability is a part of it.
