Absolute drop dead brilliant. I am in a nobel prize winner and this one rules. Lots of literary references, lots of advanced story telling devices, and an absolutely absorbing tale. Go.d

Wolf in White Van by John Darnielle
Wolf in White Van by John Darnielle
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This book is great. Dark, but really great. It is hard to describe why it is so great–the high school escapist fantasy is solid, but there is some really good inner dialog that people should check out. A quick and easy suicide read.

Faust Quote
THE LORD: Therein thou’rt free, according to thy merits;
The like of thee have never moved My hate.
Of all the bold, denying Spirits,
The waggish knave least trouble doth create.
Man’s active nature, flagging, seeks too soon the level;
Unqualified repose he learns to crave;
Whence, willingly, the comrade him I gave,
Who works, excites, and must create, as Devil.

The Book of Elsewhere by Keanu Reeves, China Miéville
The Book of Elsewhere by Keanu Reeves
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I really wanted to love this book, but it comes off as a little two action adventurer without China’s normal obtuse weirdness which I love so much. There is great vocabulary–I learned 15 new words–and some interesting ideas, but it never really comes together and packs the kind of mind bending punch that I have come to expect from my favorite British communist. Worth reading, I guess. It is likely true that my hopes got in the way–still very excited about China’s next one!

The idea of this book is fantasy. The execution is brutal—poorly written is an understatement. Just as all code needs review, all books need an editor. Disappointed.

I love this book. The art is amazing. The approach is gentle. The Jung is rock solid. I feel like I have given away five copies and will continue to promote this for years. Seriously. Thank you for publishing this.
