My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This is a fun introduction to the power of Russian short stories, the wonders of writing, and the value of well written course notes. Saunders has taught these stories for years and it shows–he captures all the critical points, provides useful biographical sketches, and demonstrates how writers can learn from them A great book and fun read.

A great reflective sequel (though it occurs first chronologically, wait it gets better) to the Passenger which was my 2022 book of the year. An epic interview of insanity, deception, suicide, love, and mathematics. A completely great book which should be read.
