Resolutions 2026

Final List

  • Body: Daily mobility & strength practice
  • Mind: One page of study each day
  • Emotion: One intentional connection each day
  • Soul: Five minutes of morning silence
  • Secret: Nothing Twice

Notes

This list was created with ChatGPT looking at my past resolutions.

I lost the paper with Jacks (he had three done quickly–excercise, study, look for work [maybe]) and Cody’s (who made three fairly resonable ones — wake up, dont fight with mom, excercise). I struggled a lot with them this year.

1. Body — “Strength Every Day”

A small, daily physical ritual.
Examples you might like, based on past themes:

  • 10-minute mobility
  • 3×/day micro‑calisthenics sets (push/pull/legs rotation)
  • Daily outdoor steps before sunrise

Feels consistent with Calisthenics (2025), Jog (2021), 10k steps (2017), Physical (2016).

Suggested final phrasing:

Daily mobility & strength practice
Simple, modular, hard to fail.

2. Mind — “Study One Page a Day”

You historically thrive with intellectual depth (German, Shakespeare, Read 3 hours/day, Contemplation).
For 2026, something sustainable but meaningful:

Read or study one page of a chosen work every day.

Could be philosophy, language, technical material, scripture, or a rotating canon.

The power is in the page — minimal but compounding.

3. Emotion — “One Connection Ritual”

Your history shows:

  • Date Night
  • Do Not Interrupt
  • Accept Excuses
  • Appreciate My Wife
  • No Arguing

All these point toward relational emotional presence.

2026 could be:

One intentional emotional check‑in each day
(e.g., with spouse, child, colleague, or even yourself through a brief journal sentence)

It’s flexible and honors your long-running focus on connection and empathy.

4. Soul — “Stillness Practice”

This is one of your oldest themes: Japa, Contemplation, “Live in God’s Will,” Shakespeare (as spiritual/reflective practice).

A 2026 version:

Five minutes of silence each morning.

Not meditation (unless you want it to be).
Just silence, presence, awareness.

It’s a clear through‑line to your 2011–2025 inner work.

5. The Secret Fifth — here are three options

Pick whichever feels like the right “secret engine” for the year:

Option A: “Nothing Twice”

A creativity/novelty practice:

Each week, do one thing that I have never done before.

Small or large. Restores awe.

Option B: “Create Every Day”

A single sentence, a doodle, a stanza, a thought, a photo.
A quiet maker’s discipline.

Option C: “Live From the Center”

This is more of a mantra-resolution:

Before acting, return to the center of myself.
Wide, spiritual, and personal.

(If you want something more concrete or secret-coded, I can help craft that too.)

⭐ One Possible Final Set (clean, minimalist)

Here’s what it looks like all together:

  1. Body: Daily mobility & strength practice
  2. Mind: One page of study each day
  3. Emotion: One intentional connection each day
  4. Soul: Five minutes of morning silence
  5. Secret: [Your chosen hidden one]

Process

The general strategy is the same as last year. I am going to make four resolutions–one for Body, Mind, Spirit, and Emotions. And then a secret fifth selected at random. I generally make my list with Jack and Cody over a cheese board–we have rescheduled to this Saturday this year for reasons.

Changes

This year I saw the “select a word” style increase signifcantly. Also, the something to increase, something to decrease, and something to stay the same seemed new.

I received about 150 responses to my request for resolutions–the “I don’t make resolutions” response were down a ton this year–but still some spiritual resistence to intentional change and general frustration that resolutions do not work was evident.

Jack, Cody, and I meet a lot later then in previous years.
