Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child

I watched this on instant view on Netflix. It was a fantastic artist biography–which has quickly become my favorite genre.

I am not sure what I liked about this movie so much–a lot of it was the honesty, some of it was the art and the struggle, and some of it was the history of the era. All of it came together for me and did not seem forced.

He died the night he was going to see Run-DMC. His favorite music was Be-Bop. He loved and felt life–I liked when the interviewer said that he was so cerebrial that it likely did not matter where he worked, after talking about his love of Hawaii. You could see the twinkle come on & he talked about how he needed to get batter at shutting the world out. It was an awesome moment. Also, the interview where he is called primative to his face happens–he says ‘what, like a primate?’–very good stuff.

A fun movie that I strongly recommend
