One Fast Move or I’m Gone

I got this from my Mother-in-law, Dee who requested it for me from Netflix.

I watched the first half in bed with Lisa. I watched the second half holding Cody in the morning.

It was a massive movie–tons and tons of fun. I really liked the soundtrack, the images of Bixby canyon, the interviews. it was great.

Tom Waits made fun of AA–“go to AA and sure you will never right again”. I spent a lot of time reflecting on this–it is a strange truth that creativity is tied to who we are and as a drunk Kerouac could not really change all that much. He was trapped, which is what the book is about at some level and the movie, and like the book the movie does not show how he got unstuck “died eight years later in Florida” is the end. Patti Smith comes back on and talks about how the scroll ends without a period. It just drifts off into the ether or something–which is a great answer, but does not address much of what Waits is talking about–he had to go down and be beat to write that stuff. I think that Waits is right.

Which is just way so wrong.
