The Third Strike by Jerry Gray

I could not find any thing about this online other then the publication date. It is an amazing book about one mans descent into Alcoholic Madness (the dust jacket promises “an alcoholic’s brilliant self-analysis” which I think is grossly overstating the situation). There is a great description of the bottom, some good suicide stuff, a random poetry section, a spiritual experience that does not work, all sorts of depression and self loathing, pompous psychology galore–all in all a great read a la Million Little Pieces.

The writer is clearly in the beatnik sailer tradition which I love, he is the son of a Doctor and demonstrates great medical observational stuff, my favorite quote is likely:
Talk about the trouble of bringing up children; what is that to the trouble of educating one’s ancestors?
